RIP Tony De Zuniga – famed Filipino comic artist and illustrator

Last May 11, 2012, Tony De Zuniga succumbed to brain damage and heart failure as a result of a stroke.

Tony De Zuniga is most famous for his work on Jonah Hex- a character he co-created with John Albano.


“Hex is a surly and cynical bounty hunter whose face is horribly scarred on the right side. Despite his poor reputation and personality, Hex is bound by a personal code of honor to protect and avenge the innocent.”


Hex was made into a film by Sony Pictures released in June 2010 and starred Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, and Megan Fox. Tony, together with Sheldon Mayer, also created Black Orchid – a name carried by three superheroine and later further developed by Neil Gaiman.


Tony De Zuniga’s legacy also includes paving the way for Filipino artists breaking into the US. Some of these artists includes Marvel & DC stables DC Alfredo Alcala, Alex Niño, Nestor Redondo, & Gerry Talaoc.
